Osamu Kanemura was born in 1964 in Tokyo, where he currently lives.
In 1992, while still enrolled at the Tokyo College of Photography, he was invited to participate in the Rotterdam Photo Biennale in the Netherlands.
In 1996, he was selected by MoMA as one of the “Six Photographers to Watch in the World.”
He appeared on Top Runner (NHK) in 2000 and on Jōnetsu Tairiku (Mainichi Broadcasting System) in 2001.
His awards include the Newcomer’s Award of the Japan Professional Photographers Society and the 13th Higashikawa International Photo Festival New Photographer Award (both in 1997), the 19th Domon Ken Award (2000), and the 39th Ina Nobuo Award (2014).
His photobooks include Spider’s Strategy (Osiris, 2001) and Concrete Octopus (Osiris, 2017).
His writings include Zenshin Kairaku Shashinka (Doyukan, 2009) and Chōhatsu suru Shashinshi (Heibonsha, 2017, co-authored with Takazawa Kenji).
